Within a one and half hour drive, we
arrive at the base of this active volcano. Along the way we make various stops
for photo opportunities. We will travel through some charming villages and
past cattle farms before arriving at the starting point of our hike.
In this natural hike, we start in an open savannah-type area, and will come
upon a number of steamy sulfur water ponds, bubbling mud, and fumaroles all
related to the volcanic activity below. After admiring this natural process,
we begin to ascend into the tropical rain forest - crossing creeks and getting
deeper into the dense and lush vegetation. Our guide will point out many
details of the forest such as Tiger Ants, Fire Ants, Strangler Fig Trees,
monkeys, iguanas, agoutis, coatis, as well as sharing many other forest facts.
Optional: After this hike we will visit a 40 ft waterfall to relax and swim.
What to bring: walking shoes, light clothing, hat, bug spray, camera and
binoculars. A person should be in good physical condition to do this 2 1/2 hr
hike. During dry season it can be extremely hot and in green season the trails
can be muddy.
